Michael D. Kinerk
Author, lecturer and founding member of the Miami Design Preservation League,
Michael Kinerk is knowledgeable in the architecture of the twentieth century. He
has authored several books and articles as well as lectured extensively on
architecture, travel, history, cultural tourism and historic preservation.
Kinerk has served as chairman of several
South Florida non-profit civic groups, on the board of the Miami Beach Community
Development Corporation and been the recipient of numerous awards for his
preservation work. In recognition of his numerous contributions to the community
Miami-Dade County declared Jan. 17, 2003 to be “Michael D. Kinerk Day.”
Dennis Wilhelm
Archivist, architectural historian and author Dennis W. Wilhelm is a published
authority on historic theatres, and has a lifelong interest in architecture. His
knowledge of 20th Century design and designers is encyclopedic. He is the
archivist for Arquitectonica, the world renowned architecture and design firm
headquartered in Miami. Prior to that, he was Collections Manager at the
Wolfsonian Foundation from 1984-1993. Wilhelm, a charter member of the Miami
Design Preservation League and founder of the Art Deco Weekend festival in 1978,
has served as it past Creative Director, and is currently chairman of the
Capitman Archives.
George Neary
George Neary is the Director of Cultural Tourism for the Greater Miami
Convention Bureau. Extensively involved in art and preservation he has been the
Executive Director of the Miami Design Preservation League, a board member of
the Dade Heritage Trust, a Trustee of Miami-Dade Art in Public Places, a board
member of the Florida Trust for Historic Preservation, Co-Chair of The Miami
Beach Fine Arts Board and is an Advisor from Florida to The National Trust for
Historic Preservation. He is an adjunct professor at Miami Dade College and a
Trustee at Design and Architecture Senior High School.
Arva Moore Parks
Native Miamian, historian, preservationist and community leader, Arva has
authored, co-authored, edited or contributed to more than a dozen books and
documentaries including the City of Miami’s official history: Miami The Magic
City. Widely honored, she has been inducted into the State of Florida and City
of Miami Women's Hall of Fame and received the Miami Herald Charles Whited
Spirit of Excellence award.
Dr. Dorothy Jenkins
Fields
Native Miamian, teacher and educator, Dr.Fields has devoted her life to
preserving the heritage of the African-American community and raising awareness
of African-American history to a national level. Founder of The Black Archives,
History & Research Foundation of South Florida, she also helped gain designation
of the landmark Lyric Theater and the Historic Overtown Folklife Village as a
National Trust "Main Street" community.
Dr. Paul George
Native Miamian, history professor, author of eight books and more than one
hundred articles Dr. George has also been the editor of Tequesta and South
Florida History. The past president of Florida Historical Society he is still a
legendary tour guide who conducts more than thirty different history tours.
Dr. Jeff Donnelly
Jeff holds a doctorate in American Studies from New York University and has
taught at Miami Country Day School. He has been a tour guide in the Art Deco
District for the Miami Design Preservation League since 1987 and directs the
semiannual Tour School training program for MDPL guides. Beth Dunlop, former
architectural critic for the Miami Herald, once described him as: "a
storyteller, a passionate, eloquent, and anecdotal host for our tour."
Nancy Liebman
Civil servant, community activist and preservationist Nancy has served the
community in numerous ways serving as Miami Beach City Commissioner, Co-Chair of
Greater Miami Convention and Visitors Bureau Heritage Tourism Task Force, Board
Member of the Miami Design Preservation League and President of the Urban
Environment League to name a few. The recipient of numerous awards in
recognition of her leadership Nancy is widely recognized as both leader and
servant of the community who simply “gets things done.”
