How to Apply

Principia College accepts the Common Application (Common App). There is no application fee. The Common App is available online for all students beginning August 1 and can be accessed through ourapplication website. Once the Common App is completed, students will be prompted to access Slate, the online platform used to submit application materials. The sooner the application is completed, the sooner the student will hear from us. We admit on a rolling basis, meaning applications will be reviewed as soon as all materials have been submitted through Slate.

Application due dates are as follows:

Spring Semester 2023	US domestic students, Canadian citizens, and US Legal Permanent Residents (LPRs): December 1, 2022, is the only due date for domestic students, Canadians, and LPRs to apply for admission, scholarships, and financial aid.
	International students (must be at least 18 years of age to apply): October 1, 2022, is the only due date for international students to apply for admission, scholarships, and financial aid.
Fall Semester 2023	US domestic students, Canadian citizens, and US Legal Permanent Residents (LPRs): March 1, 2023, is the priority due date for domestic students, Canadians, and LPRs to apply for admission, scholarships, and financial aid. Final due date for domestic applicants is May 1, 2023.
	International students (must be at least 18 years of age to apply): March 1, 2023, is the priority due date for domestic students, Canadians, and LPRs to apply for admission, scholarships, and financial aid. Final due date for international applicants is April 15, 2023.

Financial Aid

Students will be prompted to submit financial aid information during the admissions application process in Slate. Principia College offers generous merit and need-based aid to qualified students who submit completed applications by the due dates. Admissions Processes:

First-Time Freshmen

An application is complete and ready to be considered by the College Admissions Committee only after the Office of Admissions and Recruiting has received the items listed below.

Domestic students, Canadian citizens, and US Legal Permanent Residents:

• Online application (the Common App),
• High school transcripts, including courses in progress,

• Either SAT (1010 minimum/1600) or ACT (19 minimum/36) standardized test scores, or completion of our Holistic assessment option. The Holistic (Supplemental) assessment option involves a short, written response to a prompt followed by a personal interview by video. To access the Supplemental assessment in Slate, click on the test score link.
• A Pathways conversation, which is a personal interview by video. Slate will prompt applicants to schedule this conversation with a representative of the Office of Admissions and Recruiting. No preparation is needed. The conversation will cover socio-emotional readiness, values, character, faith practice, and community engagement fit.

International Students (must be at least 18 years of age to apply):

• Online application (the Common App),
• High school transcripts, including courses in progress,
• Evidence of completion of secondary school/eligibility for admission to higher/advanced education in home country, such as a diploma or certificate of completion,
• Either SAT (1010 minimum/1600) or ACT (19 minimum/36) exam scores,orcompletion of the first part of our Holistic assessment option. The Holistic (Supplemental) option involves a short, written response to a prompt followed by a personal interview by video. To access the Supplemental option in Slate, click on the test score link.
• English Proficiency Test scores (if applicable – see below),
• A Pathways conversation, which is a personal interview by video. Slate will prompt applicants to schedule this conversation with a representative of the Office of Admissions and Recruiting. No preparation is needed. The conversation will cover socio-emotional readiness, values, character, faith practice, and community engagement fit.
• Financial aid application (if applicable) must be submitted within 15 days of completing the Common App.

For all students: Application review, particularly if the Holistic Option has been chosen, may take up to three weeks.

Meeting minimum requirements of GPA and/or standardized test scores does not guarantee acceptance.

Enrollment Deposit

When an applicant has been accepted, a good-faith enrollment deposit of $100 (for students living in the US regardless of citizenship) or $350 (for students living abroad without a US passport) is required to demonstrate the student’s intention to enroll. The deposit is credited to the student’s account when the student is fully enrolled. Early deposits are greatly appreciated!

The student should notify the Office of Admissions and Recruiting as soon as possible if they do not intend to pay the enrollment deposit, thus canceling the acceptance.

Deposits for Spring 2023 are due no later than December 15, 2022.

Deposits for Fall 2023 are due no later than the first Friday in July (July 7, 2023).

Transfer Students

We welcome applications from students enrolled at other colleges who wish to transfer to Principia College. Transfer students must earn a minimum of 36 semester hours from Principia College, and be enrolled for two of the three semesters immediately prior to graduation. Please see Principia’sresidency requirementfor more details. Courses taken at other fully accredited colleges and universities are accepted for credit provided they parallel courses available at Principia, and were completed with a grade of C– or higher. Students may consult with the Registrar’s Office to determine what transfer work would be accepted. (SeeAcademic and Non-Academic Credit Rules.)

Transfer applications are complete and ready to be considered by the College Admissions Committee only after the Office of Admissions and Recruiting has received the following items:

• For students who have completed 30 hours or more of college and with a GPA is above 2.0, only the official final high school transcript and official college transcripts representing all previous college work, including a listing of college courses in progress are needed.
• For students who have not yet completed 30 hours of college, please submit:
  • Official final high school transcript and official college transcripts representing all previous college work, including a listing of college courses in progress,
  • Either SAT (1010 minimum/1600) or ACT (19 minimum/36) exam scores, or our Holistic assessment option. International Student Details

Principia College welcomes qualified applicants from all countries who are 18 years of age or older prior to enrolling at Principia College. For the 2022-2023 academic year, students may apply for any degree programs leading to a B.A. or B.S. degree. At this time, our one-year enrichment program designed for non-degree seeking students is unavailable.

English Proficiency

Some international applicants and some US nationals are required to take an English proficiency exam. Applicants who are native English speakers from the United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand, and non-French speaking Canada are not required to take an English proficiency exam. U.S. citizens who attend secondary school outside of the United States where classes are not conducted in English are required to take an English proficiency exam. Students with DACA status or permanent residency may request a waiver. Exam scores and waiver requests must be received by the Office of Admissions and Recruiting before admissions applications can be reviewed.

The following exams will be accepted:

• IELTS (International English Language Testing System) score: minimum 6.5 requirement, maximum 9.
• Pearson PTE (Pearson Test of English) score: minimum 56 requirement, maximum 90.
• Duolingo分数:115年最低要求,最大160.
• TOEFL exam (Test of English as a Foreign Language) score: minimum 80 requirement, maximum 120. Principia’s TOEFL code is 1630.

Once admitted, theInternational Student Programs and Services Office (ISPaSO)students will be guided through the visa application process (if outside the United States) or the SEVIS transfer process (if already an F-1 student at an institution within the United States). If applying for financial aid and/or scholarships, both processes require a financial aid award letter and a completedcertification of finances(COF) form, as well as payment of the enrollment deposit (see above).For Spring 2023 enrollment, the application must be complete no later than December 15, 2022.For Fall 2023 admission, the application must be complete no later than April 15, 2023.

ISPaSO will provide routine visa application/SEVIS transfer support services until the first Friday in June (June 2, 2023).

Non-Traditional Students

Principia defines a non-traditional student as being age 25 or above, and/or married, and/or with children. To apply for admission as a non-traditional student, please follow the process outlined above. To ensure that Principia can best meet non-traditional student needs, we require non-traditional students living in the United States to visit Principia during the academic year prior to an admissions decision. Employment, financial aid, schooling for children, and housing needs can be discussed in person with appropriate officials at that time of visit. If living outside of the United States, please contact the Office of Admissions and Recruiting.

Returning Students

If a student has been away from Principia for any reason for two semesters or more, a new application is required.

An application is complete and ready to be considered by the College Admissions Committee only after the Office of Admissions and Recruiting has received the following items:

• Online application (the Common App)
• Transcripts from all colleges and/or universities attended since last enrolled at Principia
• If returning from any type of suspension, additional requirements for re-admission may be necessary

After all application materials are submitted, we will schedule a personal interview via telephone or an online platform. Review of all application materials, particularly if the Holistic Option has been chosen, may take up to three weeks.
